HaiMa comes from Hainan (Automotive) – Mazda, a Chinese Japanese joint venture that made Mazda’s for the Chinese market. Mazda left, Hainan kept the name and went for it alone. Most their cars are based on old Mazda’s from the joint-venture days but slowly slowly Haima is getting away from there. This is one of the escapees, an M2-based sportsmodel.

They call it the Csport which writes a bit strange. The huge intake under the bonnet makes sure the 1.3 or 1.4 litre petrol engine gets enough air. No word on extra power so the extra plastic will likely make the car slower than standard.

It is a bit of a curious mix between a ’sports’ and a ‘cross’. It has roofrails and a protection-plate under the engine. Big wheelarches but painted cross-black and low on its feet. Is this then, a brandnew thing? This explains the ‘C’ in the name, it is a ‘Cross-Sport’.

Another protection-plate and a roof spoiler at the same time.

The M2 Csports will be released at the Beijing Auto Show at the end of April.

Greatwall Motors has a new child and it is called ‘M2′. Is it a boy or a girl? Well, they call it a ‘crossover’ so it is a bit of both. It is made for ‘urban’ people, those are a cool lot who buy their sofa’s at Ikea. Ikea is hip in China. The M2 is based on Greatwall’s Coolbear, that car’s design is ‘based’ on a Unintended Accelerating vehicle from Japan.

The M2 got a lot of extra plastic compared to the Coolbear, it stands a bit higher of it’s feet, has bigger mirrors and a roofrack to carry that sofa. The over all design reminds me of another Unintended Accelerating vehicle from Japan, the PT Cruiser.

The M2 comes with a super urban 1.5 litre four-cilinder, 67kw@6000rpm and 138nm@4200rpm. The urbanistes better buy their sofa not too heavy. Top speed is 160 and weight is 1185 kilo.

Interior is jeep-like with a nice rev counter-speedo in one. No fourwheel drive mind, only the frontwheels can get you out of Ikea’s underground parking lot. Again, better buy that sofa light. The M2 will hit the urban community next month for around 15.000 USD.
