Beijing Auto Show Live: BAW 007 ain’t Secret Anymore
Published on April 24, 2010 by Tycho

BAW revealed the 007 medium-suv today at the Beijing Auto Show. The car is supposed to be ready for production but the one and only 007 on the stand certanly was not. Especially the interior showed it was far from a finished automobile. Still, BAW handed out a leaflet that describes the 007 as a car one can buy today. My guess is it will take a while before one really can.
Beijing Auto Show Preview: BAW 007 SUV

BAW (Beijing Auto Works, Beiqi) will bring a new medium sized suv to the Beijing Auto Show. The 007 will debut on Saturday April 24. Engines: 2.0 and 2.4 litre petrol, both four-cylinders. The picture above is the first official picture from BAW that leaked out just a few days to early. Car loox good; trendy, suvy and roofrails. Picture is taken from a roadside poster somewhere near the exhibition center. Usually these are covered until the start of the show. Someone forgot.
BAW 007 is OUT

This is the new SUV from BAW, that’s Beijing Auto Works, aka Beiqi. The new machine loox just like the car we saw in a spyshot yesterday. Engines are 2.0 and 2.4 litre four cilinders.
Just checked BAW’s website and there it is, name confirmed, 007 indeed:

It will debut at April 24th, that’s the second press day of the Beijing Auto Show. Just yesterday, I got my TheTycho.com press card so live shots on that day on this site.
Spy Shots: the real BAW 007 (?)
Published on April 16, 2010 by Tycho

Yesterday we saw a very old picture of what some Chinese websites said was the new BAW (Beijing Auto Works aka Beiqi) 007 suv. We had our doubts and those today seem right with another picture of what could be the new BAW 007. It shows a partly camfouflaged car with the BAW-logo on a modern front. It isn’t the old Jeep and it isn’t the new B40 because that one has only two doors.
There is only one strange thing with this picture: the steering wheel is on the wrong side. Could be mirrored, the characters on the numberplate are from some Chinese website and added later. Maybe BAW plans to export it to some country where one drives on the left, like England.
Rumors also say BAW will show two concept cars based on the Saab 9-3 and (old) 9-5 platforms they bought from GM before Spyker got the rest.
BAW 007 SUV to make it in Production (?)
Published on April 15, 2010 by Tycho

Chinese websites report the imminent arrival of a new BAW at the Beijing Auto Show, called the 007. The car was developed from 2007 when BAW still made Jeeps with Chrysler in the Beijing-Jeep joint venture. It is very well possible that the 007 was cancelled at the time and now, under some deal with Chrysler, revived by BAW (Beijing Auto Works) alone.
The above mentioned Chinese websites prove the facts with one picture of what they say is the 007. Might be, but the picture is more than two years old.

This is a pick up version of the same car, note the same background, at the same event; the ‘2008 BAW Dealer Anniversary’ in Beijing on 6th and 7th January 2008. See here for a press release in English from BAW’s website that features the pick up truck.
It seems likely that the car was ready for production in 2008, shown to dealers at the party, and cancelled somewhere after the event. So if the 007 makes a come back it will likely look a little different, a bit more modern to start with, it is 2010 today…
