Production MG3 started, to be Listed in September

Pictures from the factory show that production of the new MG3 hatchback has started, the car will be listed in September. Engine: 1.5 with 109 hp. Size: 3999×1728x1517, wheelbase is 2520. Price will start around 100.000 rmb.
Beijing Auto to make the Electric (Saab) C71EV

Beijing Auto will build around 3000 C71EV’s, the electric version of the C71 which is based on the old Saab 9-5. Beijing Auto will set up a network of chargers around the city in a joint venture with the Beijing government, which by la way is also the biggest shareholder of Beijing Auto.
The project is essentially the same as an earlier project with an electric vehicle based on a Chrysler Sebring. When the Beijing Auto-Chrysler joint venture died the project was canceled. It is now back with a new car. The Sebrings were meant to be used as taxi’s only with a planned production of one thousand cars. The C71EV will likely see more different buyers.
Specs: Electric engine: 336V, 60-110kw, 130-300nm, 3500-5500rpm. Battery: 75Ah, 336-375V. Top speed: 160km/h. 0-100: 12.8sec. Range: 160km. Empty weight: 1790kg. Full loaded: 2165kg.
Hongqi CA7600L to Go in Production (!?)

FAW, owner of the Hongqi-brand, is seriously considering to bring the massive CA7600L to the market. If all goed to plan the limosine will keep the 5.985 litre 300kw V12 but will lose all armor. The CA7600L was originally meant to be made as a small series for government use only, but the car caused such a stir on the Beijing Auto Show that FAW decided some form of mass production might make sense. Debut date yet unknown but we do know the price: it will cost around 4 million yuan, that is 589.000 US dollar.
New FAW-Toyota Corolla NAKED

The new Toyota Corolla will hit la Chinese market in September and here the first naked pictures of the vehicle. Toyota made it look a lot more sporty compared to the old car, not sure though whether that body kit comes as standard or not, it might be a ’sports’-model, that sort is hot in China at the moment.
Mazda 5 MPV to be Made in China

The Mazda 5 will be made in China by Mazda’s joint venture with Chang’an Automotive, now still a three way with Ford, but soon they’ll be on their own. The ‘5′ will be made in the same factory in Nanjing as the Mazda 2 and 3. Engines: 1.8 and 2.0. Picture is facinating, it is taken near the Nanjing-factory and shows two 5’s in the middle, likely used for testing. On the right a Geely Englon TX4 and on the left an unknown sportsmachine. Does anybody know what it is?

The Chevrolet Orlando MPV debuted at the Paris Motor Show in 2008. GM announced in 2009 that the vehicle would see production but not for the US. Here it is testing in China, it will be made for the Chinese market by Shanghai-GM.
Spy Shots: King Long Hatchback

King Long (aka Golden Dragon, aka Jin Long) is China’s biggest busmaker. The company is now working to get big in passenger cars as well. This small five door hatchback will be their first, the yet nameless car loox clean and sporty, a bit like a shrunken last-gen Subaru Impreza wagon. Engines: 1.3 and 1.6.
All is ready but: the Chinese central government still needs to approve the venture. The government wants the auto industry to consolidate to be better prepared for the fight against the rest of the world, it is not really waiting for another new automaker. But the power of the biggest busmaker in da country can make a lot of difference, approval so likely will come soon. If given, the car can launch next year. More pics:
Toyota Corolla Verso to be Made in China

Toyota will bring the exciting Corolla Verso to the Chinese market. It will roll of the line at Guangzhou-Toyota, Toyota’s joint venture with Guangzhou Automobile. The Verso has been spotted testing on Chinese roads with cardboard camouflage. Launch-date yet unsure but likely sometime next year. The Corolla sedan is made by FAW-Toyota, Toyota’s other joint venture in China.
New Hyundai Sonata to Debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show

The Chinese-market Sonata is made in China by joint venture Beijing-Hyundai. South Korea and Europe got the new Sonata first, in December it is China time, the new car will debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show. Engines: 2.0 and 2.4. On the pic a new Sonata on transport near the factory in Beijing.
FAW Vizi V1 to Hit la Market in August

FAW will lauch the Vizi V1 compact hatchback in August, a sedan will soon follow. The Vizi, Weizi in Chinese, was born as a concept at the 2008 Beijing Auto Show and is now finally ready. It’ll come with 1.0 and 1.3 engines, price not sure yet but it’ll be cheap, likely to start from around 60.000 yuan.
