China passenger car sales down 17.02% in July
Beijing, 110808. China's home-made passenger car sales were 488,200 units, up 6.79% fromlast July, but this was a month-on-month decrease of 17.02%, said the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM)
The decrease in sales was mainly due to checks that many auto makers conduct on factory equipment in July and August, as well as the summer break.
Over the first seven months of 2008, sales in home-made passenger car had registered a year-on-year increase of 15.79%.
In July, sales of ordinary vehicles and multi-purpose vehicles (MPV) dropped to 360,800 and 14,700, a month-on-month decrease of 16.78% and 18.91% respectively, while sales of sport-utility vehicles (SUV) and crossover vehicles were 36,300 and 76,400, a month-on-month decrease of 9.67% and 16.48% respectively.
The top 10 bestsellers in July were Jetta, Accord, Excelle, Santana, Corolla, Focus, Camry, Lova, New Teana and BYD F3 with a total of 115,200 units sold, accounting for 32% of total sales.
Meanwhile, the top five sellers in July were FAW-Volkswagen, Shanghai GM, Shanghai Volkswagen, Guangzhou Honda and Tianjin FAW Toyota.
