Policemen are members of the ‘Blue Sword Commando’, comparable with a SWAT-team. The Blue Sword Commando patrols the streets of Beijing on special days, for example with a foreign president in town. The usually have these Hummer H2’s but when it is a really important day they use APC’s.

August 1 2009 was such a day, China celebrated 60 years communist rule with a military parade and loads of other festivities. To keep the exited crowd in check the police deployed the wonderful 4×4 APC’s. The crowd loved ‘m and was so indeed under control.

August 1 again. These white 6×6 monsters, see gun, are from the ‘Snow Leopard Commando’, another special police force supposed to fight terrorists.

Chinese police likes to use Chery’s QQ in busy public spaces as shopping streets and parks, so it is not a very rare sight. The beautifull traffic-lady however, is. Unfortunately they are not so much around anymore since even small villages in the countryside now have traffic lights.

The lack of an electricity-network along roads was the reason for not having those but the new ones work on solar power and so don’t need any network. The sun, yes she, took men their girls of the streets. The QQ police car in the first picture has a sunroof right in front of the warning lights, nice touch.

This one without sunroof parked to a civilian sister. The QQ, today called QQ3, comes with 0.8, 1.0 and 1.1 litre engines, strongest 1.1 has 50kw so a dedicated criminal can outrun it from the bank.

A sunroofed car again and strangely with a blue licence plate, police plates are usually white. Though not fast the QQ is certainly cheap, the 0.8 costs the copper only 21.590 rmb. That leaves a lot of money for some accesoires, like that sunroof.

The Shanghai traffic police received 20 brand new Brilliance-BMW 530’s for duty during the Shanghai Expo 2010. That old fashioned little party will start May first and last 6 months. The city counsel is expecting millions of visitors who must be impressed with Shanghai’s riches and that ain’t easy with a Santana. I did expect though that Shanghai would use Shanghai-VW’s (modern ones) or Shanghai-GM’s. I saw some pics of an electricalexpirimental police-Buickthing but that doesn’t really count. Come on SAIC, don’t let those northern cowmen (known as Dongbeiren in Chinese) steal your moment!

Shuanghuan became world famous when it copied the Smart. “But our engine is in the front!”, so Shuanghuan said. Indeed, it is not the same. Chinese police likes the little not copied car to check on civilians in crowded areas and neighbourhouds with small streets and many alleys.

That’s where the Nobleman feels at home. A basic Noble does 39.900 to 53.800 rmb. Engines are a 1.0 (forbidden in Beijing due to environmental concerns) and a 1.1.

Shuanghuan is working on an all electric Noble but so far that’s only a prototype. Cops would like it though, sneaking up on elderly playing mahjong in their alley… Mahjong is officially forbidden in China because it involves gambling. The police however doesn’t really care about some old commies playing a little game or two.

A policecar can never be big enough. Police, or rather a fortunate boss, got himself a 1.65 million rmb Audi Q7 4.2. Chinese, still not the richest in the world, criticize the government, but not too loud of course, for spending their tax money in such a way. This particulair car was seen by spotmen 3 times, they all posted their picture on the web to show their ‘anger’. At the same time they love the car and indeed, a fine piece of machinery is it.

Numberplate says ‘B2000′, a rare kind of a number even for policemen. On the side of the car the characters 公安, meaning ‘public peace’. Peace though, is easily disturbed by the roar of that mighty German V8.

A clear view on the front tells the car’s home: it is Hebei (河北) province, disclosed bij the small character ‘北’ on the left-upper corner of the number plate. Got you, Hebeiman!

Today a very special police car from Beijing. It is a electric 4-wheel mini car and most likely used in parks or other public places. The characters on the bonnet say 警察, jingcha, meaning ‘police’. The two yellow characters say 巡逻, xunluo, meaning ‘on duty’. I had never seen the thing before even though I live in Beijing for seven long years.

The car’s brand name is Incalcu and after some Googleling around I found the ‘Shandong Incalcu Group’, website, a bicycle manufacturer from Shandong province. They also make ‘electric cars‘ and so I know this baby’s full name: Incalcu EC 2006A.

Unfortunately that’s all the information available so I know nothing more. But the vehicle seems still available, when I first saw the car is these pictures I figured it was something long gone of market.

The blue characters say 公安, gongan, meaning ‘public security’.

Traffic Petrol Police in the central Chinese city of Chongqing is now armed with a huge fleet of Chang’an Ford Mondeos. Chongqing is also the home of Chan’an-Ford’s factory. Buy Chongqingican, the police must have thaught.

A policecar can never have enough stickers. The Mondeos are equipped with Ford’s 2.0 petrol engine to make sure no ricethieve gets away.

Chinese policemen wear their yellow safety jackets and hats inside their cars as well, a bit strange indeed. This ceremony is a typical China with all men and cars neatly lined up, I bet the national anthem was played.
