Honda to make CR-Z and Insight Hybrids in China

Honda has decided to make to CR-Z and Insight hybrids in China, likely with joint venture partner Guangzhou Auto. To keep costs low Honda wants to source the expensive batteries locally instead of importing them from Japan. Honda is currently looking for a Chinese battery-supplier. Guess they thought about BYD… It is so not exactly sure when production will start, but Honda thinks 2012 must be possible.

Honda Crosstour to be Made in China

The Honda Crosstour will be made in China by Guangzou-Honda. It will get the 3.5 V6 and problably the 2.4. Car will hit la market in October. Price for the 3.5 around 350.000 yuan. A very brave move, I expected Honda to import it on special order only. Chinese customers know very well how the Crosstour was received by US and European press so the poor car gets a very bad start…

Guangzhou-Honda to recall Odyssey cars in China

More bad luck for Honda. State media reports that Guangzhou-Honda recalls 32.650 Odyssey mpv’s due to a problem with the oil return tube. The vehicles with the problem were made between June 22 2009 and May 19 2010.

Honda’s parts plant resumes operation

State media reports that all Honda’s part plants are up and running again. Production of Honda vehicles, which was halted due to lack of parts, will restart tomorrow. Monday say a scuffle in the Foshan factory between workers and trade union officers who tried to get the workers to work. According to the article the officers went back to the factory and apologized. Workers asked an extra 800 rmb per month, Honda said it was willing to pay more but not that much. Negotiations are continuing.

GUANGZHOU – The parts plant of Japan’s second-largest automaker, Honda, in South China’s Guangdong province resumed operations Wednesday, but negotiations continued over workers’ demands for higher pay.

Workers of Nanhai Honda Auto Parts Manufacturing Company, in Foshan city, entered the plant Wednesday morning to work, said a worker surnamed Li.

Strike hits Honda China plants

China Daily reports that workers are on a strike in all four of Honda’s assembly plants in China. Workers want more cash. Instead of talking money Honda came up with an an agressive plan to make much more cars which would likely mean, so feared the workers, that they had to work even harder for their rmb. That did it and all workers went on strike. China Daily talks:

“GUANGZHOU – Honda’s four auto assembly plants in China have ground to a halt after workers at the company’s parts maker went on strike demanding better wages.

The strike, the largest industrial action ever reported in China, was continuing on Thursday after negotiations broke down between the management of Honda’s supplier factory in China and its 1,900 workers, according to an executive in Honda Auto Parts Manufacturing Co in Fo- shan, Guangdong province.

“Honda to expand production by 36 pct in China by 2012″

Honda Motor President and Chief Executive Officer Takanobu Ito said Tuesday the company plans to increase its manufacturing capacity in China by 36 percent by 2012, in a move that will expand the presence of Japan’s second-largest automaker in the world’s biggest auto market.

The move will raise Honda’s production capacity in China to 830,000 vehicles by the end of 2012.

A factory operated by Guangqi Honda Automobile Co., a joint venture with Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., will double its capacity to 240,000 units by 2011.

A new factory operated by Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co, another joint venture, will begin operations soon. Read more »
