Geely got approval for Volvo-plant in China

From ChinaDaily, 200810. BEIJING – Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co Ltd has got the necessary approval to set up a production facility in Shanghai for Volvo cars, sources said on Thursday.
“Jiading will host the facility,” said Jin Jianzhong, Party secretary of Jiading district in Northwest Shanghai, in a telephone interview with China Daily. “We have reached an agreement with Geely on the matter and will provide a series of favorable policies for producing Volvo cars,” said Yu Jianhua, deputy director of the Jiading Industrial Zone and Asset Management Committee.
However, both of the officials refused to disclose further details about the project, and said the local government and Geely will make a formal announcement in this regard soon. A source familiar with the project said the National Development and Reform Commission has already cleared the plan.
Jiading district government said on its website that Geely will set up the new facility in the Jiading Industrial Zone with an annual capacity of 300,000 vehicles. The plant will produce Volvo’s three-door, four-seat hatchback C30 and mid-sized five-door estate car V70 in 2012.
Geely-Emgrand EC8 is OUT

The Geely-Emgrand EC8 will hit la market in October, the Emgrand EC8 is Geely’s first step in unknown luxury territory, it will compete with the Toyota Camry, Volkswagen Magotan, Honda Accord, Nissan Teana and Chery-Riich G5. It comes with two engines, Geely’s own 2.0 and with a Mitsubishi-sourced 2.4. Depending on engine car will be called EC820 or EC825. Lot of new pics:

The Geely-GLEagle GX2 cross is based on the Geely-GLEagle Panda. The GX2 debuted as a concept at the Beijing Auto Show and was very liked cause of its coolness. Geely so didn’t wait long and decided to make it. The GX2 will come with a 1.3 engine and price will start around 60.000 yuan.
Geely-Emgrand EC825 to be Listed on August 20

It has taken ‘m a while but the Geely-Emgrand EC825 will finally be listed on August 20. It is Geely’s first step into a more upmarket territory, the next EC825 will by la way likely get Volvo engines. This one though will have to do with Geely’s own 2.0 and a Mitsubishi-sourced 2.4. Price will start around 125.000 yuan.
Geely-Englon SC5-RV is getting Ready

The Geely Englon SC5-RV debuted as a concept at the Beijing Auto Show. Geely decided it was good enough and production has started, it will hit la market soon. The SC5-RV is a sporty small hatchback-cross-thingy with a lot of plastic.

From Xinhua, 020810. Chinese car maker Geely Holdings Group Co. Ltd. said Monday it has completed its 1.8 billion U.S. dollar-buyout of Ford Motor Co.’s Volvo unit, in a landmark foreign acquisition by a Chinese company.
At a handover ceremony held in London, Ford delivered all of its Volvo assets to Geely Holdings Group, after the deal won approval from regulators in China, the United States and the European Union.
In a telephone interview with Xinhua, Li Shufu, Chairman of Geely Group and Volvo Car Corporation, said he hopes to restore Volvo to a leading position in the global luxury auto market.
“After the takeover, Geely remains Geely and Volvo is still Volvo. The relationship between the two companies is brotherhood and not a parent-and-child relationship,” Li told Xinhua. Read more »
Chinese govt approves Geely’s purchase of Volvo

From: ChinaDaily, 300710. BEIJING – Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co is expected to complete it takeover of Swedish luxury car brand Volvo from US automaker Ford Motor Co on Monday after getting government approval for the deal.
Ministry of Commerce officials told China Daily on Thursday that the government cleared the Volvo deal on Monday 26, after the National Development and Reform Commission cleared the proposal last week.
Geely has also got the necessary anti-trust approvals from the European Union and the US government for the deal. “With this the decks are now clear for Geely to complete its acquisition of Volvo and start manufacturing the brand in China,” said Wang Zhile, director of the research center on transnational corporations under the Ministry of Commerce.
Yuan Xiaolin, Geely’s spokesman for the Volvo deal was unavailable on Thursday for comment. However, unnamed sources from Geely told China Daily that the Zhejiang-based automaker will hold a formal function on Monday to complete the deal.
Geely sales up 42% in Jan-June

Vehicle sales of Geely Automobile Holdings Ltd rose by an annual 42.1 percent in the first six months of this year, indicating that the Chinese carmaker was on track to achieve its full-year target. Geely Automobile, whose parent Zhejiang Geely Holding Group is buying Ford Motor’s Volvo car unit, sold 195,734 vehicles from January to June, it said in a statement late on Friday.
Privately-held Zhejiang Geely is the biggest carmaker in China, which overtook the United States as the world’s No.1 auto market last year. In March, Geely signed a deal to buy Sweden-based Volvo for $1.8 billion, marking the country’s biggest auto purchase overseas.
Geely-Volvo’s China HQ to locate in Shanghai

Geely-Volvo’s Chinese headquarters, research and development center, and production base will be located in Shanghai International Automobile City, said Zhu Mingrong, vice president of the executive council and secretary-general of China Auto Talents Society on Thursday.
Zhu, also the deputy director of the Organization Department in Jiading District, Shanghai, released that Geely-Volvo signed an agreement with the government of Jiading District on June 30.
An insider from Geely-Volvo said that no details could be released before the final completion of the purchasing deal.
The takeover of Sweden’s Volvo by Geely, a privately-run Chinese carmaker, was approved by the European Commission on Tuesday.

Geely-Emgrand EC8 Interior

The Geely-Emgrand EC8 debuted at the Beijing Auto Show. The EC8 was formerly known as Geely-Emgrand EC825, Geely decided to ditch ‘25′. Geely said the EC8 would be on the market ‘in the second half of 2010′. Well, ain’t that now?, but yet no trace of the EC8 at the dealers. It won’t be long though before it finally gets there, these pictures show the interior of the poduction version of the EC8. Chinese like fake wood, check. Chinese like fake alu: check. Chinese like fake wood and fake alu in the same interior: check. A Geely-job wel done.
