New BMW X3 Spied in China

The new BMW X3 will make its world wide dubut at the Paris Auto Show in October. The new car has been spied testing in China. This could mean BMW is adjusting some of the cars suspension-settings for China’s rougher roads.

It could also mean BMW will make the X3 in China in its joint venture with Brilliance Automotive. They might make it in China later but not yet, the X1 will see local production first. So likely the new X3 will be imported and car on pics is just busy adjusting settings and set up.

BMW sees 30% rise in China sales this year

Germany’s luxury carmaker BMW expects its China car sales to rise more than 30 percent this year, boosted by the country’s robust economic growth, its China chief said on Thursday. BMW China expects sales volume to hit 120,000 units in 2010, up from about 90,000 units in 2009.

The world’s largest premium carmaker sold more than 75,000 BMW and Mini brand cars in China in the first half of 2010. “We are well on the way to reach our target. We are quite happy and confident,” said Christoph Stark, president & CEO, BMW Group Region China. “None of us had expected the market to run so fast this year,” Stark told a small group of reporters in Shanghai as the carmaker launched a new 5-series sedan in the country.

BMW breaks ground for second factory in China

BMW-Brilliance celebrated the ground breaking ceremonie for a new factory in Shenyang in Liaoning province. Total investment is 5 billion yuan (560 million euros). Brilliance and BMW will share the cost equally. The factory will be ready to roll in 2012 with a capacity of 100.000 cars a year.

It will make the X1 crossover and the stretched 3-series, among others. Norbert Reithofer, chairman of the BMW-board, was quoted: “China has become the third-largest market for BMW Group worldwide.” BMW’s other factory is in Shenyang as well and makes the 3 and 5-series.

BMW X1 ‘World Expo’ edition

Everything with the magic words ‘World Expo Shanghai’ gets a lot of media attention in China today. Several car makers rolled out expo-themed specials and now BMW is in with this 492.000 rmb X1 xDrive25i. It will hit la market soon.

The X1 is now imported but BMW and Brilliance are working on a new factory to make the X1 in China, factory to be completed in 2012. The X1 will then likely sell a bit cheaper, 492.000 is a lot of cash for such a small vehicle. BMW will also make a stretched version of the 3-series to compete with Audi’s A4L.
